Support Legislation to Prevent Drilling Off Our Coast
The Trump Administration kicked off 2018 with its announcement to open more than 90% of our nation’s coast to new and expanded oil drilling, including the California Coast and the Santa Barbara Channel. Expanded oil and gas development off of our coast significantly increases the risk of oil spills, which threaten the ocean, our wildlife, and our coast.
California legislators are also fighting back against Trump’s oil leasing plan, and today we need you to speak up and support two legislative bills which would prohibit the State of California from approving development that would support new offshore oil and gas in federal waters.
Senate Bill 834, authored by Hannah-Beth Jackson, and Assembly Bill 1775, authored by Monique Lìmon, would prohibit the state from approving any new leases, permits, or infrastructure that would support new oil development in federal waters. These bills are necessary to protect the California coast from the risks and impacts of new offshore oil and gas that threatens our coastal communities, environment, and economy.

I support AB 1775 and SB 834, which would prohibit the State Lands Commission from approving any new leases, or any lease renewals, extensions, or modifications that would result in the increase of oil or gas production from federal waters. These bills are necessary to protect the California coast from the risks and impacts of new offshore oil and gas development, including development in federal waters that threatens our coastal communities, environment, and economy.
On January 4th, 2018, the Trump administration announced a proposal to drastically expand offshore drilling and exploration for oil and natural gas in federal waters off the California coast. Expanded oil and gas development off of our coast significantly increases the risk of oil spills, which threaten the ocean, our wildlife, and our coast. AB 1775 and SB 834 will help protect California’s coastline, our environment, and our economy by putting a stop to new offshore oil and gas drilling and production.
