Why Should you Support the Environmental Defense Center?

Since 1977, EDC has been working in the public interest at the forefront of protecting the local environment of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties of California. We are the only nonprofit environmental law firm between Los Angeles and San Francisco and over our history we have represented more than 100 nonprofit, community-based organizations to help them achieve their environmental goals. EDC is 100% privately funded; we accept no government grants. To carry out our work, we depend on the support of individuals who care deeply about protecting and restoring the environment.

EDC’s track record is unmatched. Over time we have, among many other victories, retired 40 offshore oil leases, permanently protected more than 100,000 acres of open space, and helped ensure that Santa Barbara County has some of the strongest protections against fracking anywhere in the state.

FINANCIAL SNAPSHOT

With a lean, efficient staff and minimal overhead costs, EDC carries out this hard work every day, thanks to your support. Our annual budget of approximately $1 million is primarily built on donations large and small from individuals, responsible businesses, and allied groups Foundation grants, clients, and some attorneys’ fees awards also comprise a portion of our revenue EDC owns the historic Cordero Adobe building in downtown Santa Barbara, which serves as our main office.

We rely on community support to do our work. We hope you will join us by making a contribution today! You may also choose to contribute regularly as a monthly, sustaining member. View more ways to give, or see EDC’s 2022 990 . EDC’s EIN number is 77-0061994.
