Ways to Give
As a nonprofit, public interest organization, EDC relies exclusively on individual donations, philanthropic grants, client fees, and court-ordered awards. We receive no government funding and do not accept donations from sources that run counter to our mission.
Your gift is put to work immediately to support environmental protection in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Charitable gifts allow EDC to continue serving the public as a government watchdog, legal counsel, and advocate for the nonprofit organizations we represent. We “level the playing field” for the environment in the face of well-funded, powerful interests, and ensure that such parties comply with existing environmental law.
We are grateful for your support.
Show your commitment to EDC by signing up for an automatic, recurring gift. A monthly donation of any amount provides EDC with steady, reliable funding that ensures we can remain strong to protect our communities, our health, and our environment for years to come.
A planned gift is one of the best, yet most overlooked ways of supporting a nonprofit. This is because planned giving enables an individual to make an even bigger contribution than they may have been able to from their income. Not only are there huge benefits to making a planned gift but they continue a donor’s legacy to an organization. Many types of planned gifts also provide tangible tax benefits to donors during their lifetime. A planned gift is a pledge or contribution that is made today, for the future.
Join EDC by making a gift today and become part of the EDC community – individuals united in protecting and enhancing our local environment through education, advocacy, and legal action. Your first donation of $35 or more in a given twelve-month period counts as your annual membership dues. Contributions above that amount mean we can do that much more as a result of your commitment.
Member benefits include:
Your annual membership will help EDC remain strong and ensure our continued vigilance to preserve what makes this the special place we are so lucky to call home.
It may be possible to increase your gift to EDC through a matching gift program from your employer. Check with your personnel or human resources officer for information about your company’s matching gift policy. Please mail your company’s matching gift form along with your contribution and EDC staff will do the rest.
Donating appreciated stock to EDC is an effective way to give since EDC receives the full market value of the shares with no capital gains tax reduction. Donating appreciated stock also benefits the donor by saving you on your taxes in two ways: 1) avoiding capital gains taxes, and 2) allowing you to take an income tax deduction on the full value of the stock.
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is an excellent way to show your support for EDC and receive tax benefits! As you plan your required minimum distributions (RMD), consider using your IRA account to make the most of your charitable giving. QCD’s are excluded as gross income on your federal tax form which can lower your taxable income, and your gift counts toward your RMD for the year in which you made the gift. To qualify you must be 70 ½ or older at the time of the gift and distributions must be made directly from a traditional IRA account to EDC
