Take Action to protect Steelhead

Action Alert! Click here to see if there are any urgent actions you can take to help EDC protect and recover steelhead.

Even if there are no urgent actions, many steps can always be taken to improve conditions for steelhead in California.

  • Contact local, state and federal government agencies and officials and hold them accountable to protect steelhead and steelhead habitat. For example, the following governing bodies and elected officials represent jurisdictions with steelhead habitat:

Santa Barbara City Council: 735 Anacapa St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101, 564-5318
Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors:
sbcob@co.santa-barbara.ca.us

Congresswoman Lois Capps:

Assemblyman Pedro Nava: 101 W. Anapamu Street #A Santa Barbara, CA 93101

  • Conserve water. Install low-flow fixtures and High Efficiency washers. Landscape with drought-tolerant plantings and consider replacing your lawn with drought-tolerant alternatives to save the steelhead.
  • Speak up about projects that would divert water from creeks and rivers, or that would create barriers to steelhead migration. Support projects that remove barriers from steelhead streams. Inform decision makers about your opinions on protecting steelhead and steelhead habitat.
  • Report any grading or vegetation removal along creeks to the California Department of Fish and Game at 1-800-952-5400.
  • Talk about steelhead protection and recovery with your friends and colleagues.
  • Vote for candidates who support environmental protection.
  • Contribute to EDC today! Send your tax-deductible contribution to EDC at 906 Garden Street, Santa Barbara CA, 93101
