Goleta City council supports urban agriculture, says "not the time" for development at bishop ranch

On September 20, 2011, the Goleta City Council chose not to initiate a General Plan amendment which would have paved the way for up to 1,200 homes on Bishop Ranch.  EDC represented the Goodland Coalition, a diverse group of Goleta residents who value Bishop Ranch as the largest open space in the City of Goleta.

The historic 240-acre Bishop Ranch sits on top of prime farmland and diverse wildlife habitats.  When the City was incorporated a decade ago, residents opted to include Bishop Ranch within City limits, in order to maintain discretion over the future of this important parcel.  At this point, thousands of homes are already being planned in Goleta’s urban core, and Bishop Ranch is not needed to accommodate housing.
